Why I don't like GoW.

It was years ago when I gave the GoW series a shot. I played 1, 2 and 3. If I remember correctly, I didn't finish 3 because at that point I realized there wasn't any improvement that was going to make me enjoy the series.

Being freestyle combos or more complex ones from combo MADs, in DMC the concept of combo implies the control of variables like: height, proximity, different timings (timings to JC, to switch weapons, to chain moves, to royal release, to direct the left stick for reversals and inertial techs, to lock-off/on and even to switch targets in freestyle), etc.

In GoW such management is almost non-existent. The main weapon has a really long range and there is barely any necessity for precision in terms of positioning during a combo. There are obviously fewer options to connect, and the connections themselves aren't demanding in terms of timings either. It lacks a cancel system like JC (and there are other types of cancels in DMC), which drastically reduces the interactivity between different elemens of the move-set.

Why can't I enjoy it without focusing in the combo potential...?

It's really not even about the square, square, triangle combo or calling it button masher. I have no doubt there is probably some challenge in higher difficulties and one has to adapt in a more sophisticated way than spamming the same ground combo and dodging.

Leaving aside the long range of the main melee weapon/AoE focus, poor move-set, etc., the game itself is clunky and unpolished for me compared to: DMC, Ninja Gaiden, MGRR and even RPGs or hybrids like Nioh. I would even prefer the slow Dark Souls system or Sekiro.

Lord of Shadows 1 and 2 themselves, despite having a GoWish system, seemed more polished than GoW for me (I say seemed because, to be fair, I played these games really long ago).

This is why, if I were to play an action game mainly because of the reactions to enemy attacks, strategic aspects, etc., and not so much because of the proactive and creative ones, GoW would still be like one of the last options I would choose. I would rather even play Hollow Knight, for example.

I simply have much better options to choose from... Especially NG.

Note: I haven't discussed elements like scripted boss fights with QTE's, because, even if I don't like them. It's not even necessary because I wouldn't play GoW even without them.
